Anonymous Q&A

Everybody  –   Index Cards   –  15 Minutes

How to Run Anonymous Q&A

  1. Pass out index cards to participants
  2. Have everyone write a question on their index card
  3. Collect index cards
    1. (Optional) collect the cards and have everyone take a break so you have time to read through and prioritize the questions you want to answer
  4. Select an index card and read the entire question as written
  5. Answer the question
  6. Repeat reading the questions and answering until out of time or questions

Example & Prompt

Imagine you’re hosting a meeting for all new and current members of a small-but-growing labor union. You want to create an opportunity for all members to ask questions without it taking over the full agenda.

You’ve carved out 15 minutes for Q&A towards the midpoint of the meeting. When it’s time, you pass out index cards and pens and invite everyone to write down one question that they have about the union, their membership, or anything else on their mind. If they don’t have a question, you invite them to write “I don’t have a question at this time” so that everyone has written something.

You collect all the cards and pull out one or two to start answering while your co-facilitator sorts through the remaining cards and prioritizes the questions.
