Sticky Note Generator

Solo  –   Stickies & Markers   –  10 Minutes

How to Run Sticky Note Generator

  1. Provide the prompt or question the group will be brainstorming on
  2. Pass out sticky notes and pens or markers
  3. Remind participants to use one sticky note for each idea they have
  4. Start the timer
  5. Once finished, gather and display all sticky notes where the group can see them

To run this process online, we recommend using a digital whiteboard tool like MURAL.

Example & Prompt

When you’re looking to see all of the requests/desires of a group:

“We have two days to explore the concept of facilitation together. I want you to take the next two minutes and write down everything that you would want to explore, one idea per sticky. No request/idea is too big or too specific!”

When you’re looking to increase participation in a brainstorm:

“When we’re looking ahead at Quarter 3, it’s become clear that we don’t want to continue with the status quo. What are our priorities? We’re going to be homing in on those during the discussion, so for now, I want you to write down all of the possibilities. Keep it to one idea per sticky.”

When you don’t want a contentious discussion to devolve into a vent session:

“We know the last six weeks have been really difficult with the changing guidelines around public health. We would like to know your top five requests for ways the school could better support your teaching efforts during this time. We’d like each idea to be as specific as possible, so please separate the ideas to one per sticky.”
