Mind Mapping
Groups – Flipchart & Markers – 15 Minutes

How to Run Mind Mapping
- Identify a central concept for participants to brainstorm around
- In small groups, have participants write the concept in the middle of their piece of paper
- Encourage them to branch from the central concept and create various categories and subtopics, getting more detailed within the branches as they go
Example & Prompt
Imagine your group was Mind Mapping in response to, “What makes great food?”
One next-level subtopic might be seasoning. Within that topic we can get into spiciness, acidity, salt forms, etc. Another subtopic might be presentation, and so on. For this example, we would write the central node as “Great Food.”

Mind maps can be made about the same topic across all groups, or different groups can focus on varying concepts. Using flip chart paper (or any large paper) allows for the group to see each other’s mind maps from a distance.
