Draw It Out

Solo  –   Paper & Markers   –  5 Minutes

How to Run Draw It Out

  1. Have everyone prepare to draw
  2. Provide instructions for the activity, encouraging a range of visual responses (emphasize that the goal is not a masterpiece but a visual collection/reflection of their thoughts)
  3. Share the prompt or question, keeping it visible while they are drawing
  4. Inform the group before they begin whether these drawings will be shared with everyone, a small group, or are just for their solo reflection
  5. Let them know how long they’ll have
  6. Start the timer

Example & Prompt

“Now that we’ve finished that documentary about resilient communities after natural disasters, I’m going to give us a few minutes to capture our thoughts, responses, and emotional reactions to what we just watched. Scribbles, colors, stick figures all count, just steer clear of using words. I’m going to set a timer for three minutes, ready? Go!”
