Debate Club

Everybody  –   No Supplies   –  15 Minutes

How to Run Debate Club

  1. Identify the topic of debate and select participants
    1. Optionally, after identifying participants, give them time in small groups to refine their argument
  2. Give each side the same amount of time to state their reasoning, without allowing interruptions or cross-talk
  3. Allow for responses and questions from the group after each side has gone once

Example & Prompt

Pick a subject and create a sentence with a clear point of view, then have the debaters choose for or against. Narrow the topic to increase specificity.

  • “Group norms should always be made via anonymous voting.”
  • “Professional development trainings should be mandatory for everyone.”
  • “Students should be required to sign into a study hall during free period instead of being autonomous during free periods.”
