Debate Club
Everybody – No Supplies – 15 Minutes
How to Run Debate Club
- Identify the topic of debate and select participants
- Optionally, after identifying participants, give them time in small groups to refine their argument
- Give each side the same amount of time to state their reasoning, without allowing interruptions or cross-talk
- Allow for responses and questions from the group after each side has gone once
Example & Prompt
Pick a subject and create a sentence with a clear point of view, then have the debaters choose for or against. Narrow the topic to increase specificity.
- “Group norms should always be made via anonymous voting.”
- “Professional development trainings should be mandatory for everyone.”
- “Students should be required to sign into a study hall during free period instead of being autonomous during free periods.”
