Make A Model
Everybody – Flipchart & Stickies – 15 Minutes
How to Run Make A Model
- Pick a topic to explore with the group and explain the process to them
- Have the group pick a model to fill in
- Draw a blank model on a flip chart
- Capture ideas on sticky notes, placing them within the model as you go
- If the group gets stalled on one component of the model, prompt them to fill in a different component
- Continue until the entire model has been filled out
There are many different types of models to choose from: a pyramid, a ladder, a flowchart, a cycle, any visual metaphor like rain/sun/ground/plants/soil, etc.
Examples & Prompts
Event Planning: Flowchart
“What are all the steps to this event that we need to plan for, who is involved in those different steps, and what order do they need to happen in?”
Quarterly Goals: Pyramid
“We’re going to make a pyramid of the components that make our business successful. What makes up the base? What are the little things we do that make up the top of the pyramid?”
Facilitator Skills: Ladder
“What are the initial things we do with groups in order to gain trust? For the next rung, we’re going to brainstorm the ongoing moves we make to keep that trust intact.”
